Welcome to the rural town that knows how to live well!
Welcome to Soignies, the town of the Blue Stone. This is the location where, for more than three centuries, “little granite” has been extracted, a noble product that bestows on Soignies its title of European capital of blue stone. Tours are organised in the Soignies quarries too. The Blue Stone has also given the inhabitants the nickname “the quarrymen”. It has to be said, it’s everywhere! A tour of the blue stone documentation centre allows you to explore the history of the Soignies quarries. Stroll in the historic town centre, where sculpted façades abound! You’ll encounter the millennial Saint-Vincent Roman collegiate church. Dare to explore the town’s surprising cemetery: a treasure-house of funerary art! Soignies also represents a long rural tradition. Stroll in the Soignies countryside and see incredible medieval farms. Make the most of the opportunity to discover authentic producers of regional products! Stop at Louvignies castle, a sumptuous residence with an exciting history. Soignies also abounds in folklore. Since the 13th century, the Grand Tour Saint-Vincent has set off on this historic procession on the first Monday of Pentecost with hundreds of faithful pilgrims. A lighter celebration, la Ducasse and Simpélourd thrill Sonégiens at the end of October. The good folk of the town parade through the town accompanied by giants, Gille figures, grenadiers and the Soignies imperial guard.
